AC Installation in Fairfield
We install central air conditioners sized to how your home actually gains heat, not to the label on the old unit. The estimate costs nothing, the price is in writing before we start, and you end up with a quiet, level, properly charged system that holds steady through a hot, dry summer.
Choosing and installing a new AC the careful way
Central air stays with your home for many years, so the planning before install day counts as much as the install. We take measurements, work out the cooling load room by room and suggest equipment that suits your house, your electrical service and the furnace or air handler it will work with.
A new unit makes sense when the old one is getting on in years, runs on a phased-out refrigerant or needs the same repair over and over. It also fits homes with a forced-air furnace that have never had central air. If repairing still makes more sense, we say so and send you to our AC repair service.
Installation and replacement estimates cost nothing, and a written quote comes before any work. No sales pressure and no fuzzy allowances.
What comes with your installation
Cooling load calculation
We factor in square footage, insulation, window area and how much sun the house gets. Too big a unit cycles on and off and leaves the air damp, and too small a unit runs all afternoon without keeping up.
A system that works with your furnace
The condenser outside, the coil inside and the furnace blower have to work together. Before we suggest a model, we check that the blower can push enough air across the new coil.
Pad, line set and wiring
The condenser goes on a level pad with room for airflow and service. We run a new line set or reuse one of the right size, and add a disconnect that meets code. The lines are insulated and fastened neatly to the wall.
Evacuation, charging and startup
A deep vacuum pulls moisture out of the lines, and then we charge to the manufacturer's spec. Temperature split and pressures are checked before we finish.
Permit and inspection
We get the permit the job needs and book the inspection, so the installation is on record and meets code.
Haul-away and cleanup
We recover the old refrigerant and haul the old unit off properly. Floors are covered on the way in, and the work area is left the way it was.
When a new air conditioner may make sense
It runs on R-22
R-22 is no longer made, so recharging an older system that uses it costs a lot. A leak in one of these units is often when replacing beats repairing.
The same repairs come back
A second compressor or coil failure within a few seasons usually means the whole system is wearing out.
Some rooms stay hot
If the upstairs is still warm in the evening during a heat wave, the unit may be too small or simply losing capacity as it ages.
Summer electric bills keep climbing
An older, less efficient condenser uses more electricity for the same cooling. When bills go up and your habits haven't changed, efficiency is usually to blame.
You don't have central air yet
With a forced-air furnace and window units, central AC can share the furnace blower you already own. Keeping windows shut also helps when wildfire smoke rolls in.
How installation day runs
- 1
Home visit and quote
We look at your furnace, electrical panel, existing equipment and where the condenser will sit. You receive a written quote with the model, the scope and what is included.
- 2
Arrival and protection
We lay down floor protection, confirm the plan with you and shut off power to the equipment before removing anything.
- 3
Removal and setting
We recover the old refrigerant, remove the old condenser and coil, then set the new equipment level and secure. Most single-system replacements finish in one day.
- 4
Commissioning
After vacuum and charging, we run the system, measure its performance and adjust until it matches specification.
- 5
Walkthrough
We show you the thermostat settings, filter location and what normal operation sounds like, then schedule the inspection.
What shapes the cost of a new AC
Every installation is quoted for your home after we see it. The price follows a handful of real factors, and we explain each one on the written quote so nothing arrives as a surprise.
- Size and efficiency
- Higher capacity and higher efficiency ratings cost more up front. They can lower operating costs over the life of the system, and we will show you where the tradeoff sits for your home.
- Furnace compatibility
- If your furnace blower cannot support the new coil, the furnace may need attention or replacement at the same time. We will say so plainly at the estimate.
- Electrical capacity
- Some older panels need a new breaker or upgraded circuit for the condenser. A modern, well-labeled panel keeps this simple.
- Access and placement
- Tight side yards, long line set runs or a new pad location add time and material.
- Permits and add-ons
- Permit fees, a new thermostat or an air cleaner are listed as separate lines so you can choose.
Questions about a new AC

Is central AC or a heat pump the better choice?
They cool in the same way. A heat pump also heats your home efficiently for much of the year, with the furnace taking over in hard cold. We quote both side by side so you can compare, and our Heat Pumps page goes into that decision further.
Can my current furnace stay?
Usually, yes. When the furnace is in good condition and its blower can handle the new coil, we connect the AC to it. When the furnace is close to worn out, replacing both together is usually cheaper, and we can quote our furnace installation service alongside.
How long will the installation take?
A simple replacement usually takes a day. Putting central air into a home that never had it, or upgrading the electrical, can take longer. Your quote includes a realistic schedule.
Does someone need to be home?
Someone should let us in at the start and be there at the end for the walkthrough. Between those, we are mostly outside and at the furnace, so your day can go on as usual.
How do I keep the new AC working well?
Change the filter on schedule and keep plants and debris a couple of feet away from the condenser. An annual tune-up finds small problems early, and our Maintenance Plans keep that on the calendar.
